About Dr. Sanjay Sharma and his Clinics

Dr. Sanjay Sharma has been working as an ophthalmologist and retina specialist in Kingston Ontario for over 12 years. He has diagnosed and treated tens of thousands of patients with eye conditions at his clinic and is recognized as an international expert in macular disease.

In 2007 eye injections using new medicines were proven to have remarkable benefits in patients with wet macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and other retinal conditions.

To achieve these benefits, frequent eye injections called intravitreal injections are often required. Through our work with thousands of patients in Kingston we realized that one of the barriers to quality health care was easy access to a clinic where these procedures can be provided.

In so many cases, patients must take a good portion of a day off to drive to a clinic and receive an intravitreal injection. As well, their caregivers must do the same—which can often be hard on an ongoing basis.

To address these issues Dr. Sharma opened his first part-time intravitreal injection clinic in Belleville in 2011. The overwhelmingly positive feedback lead him to open a number of locations, including those in Ajax, Brockville, Smiths Falls, Port Hope, and a new primary retina clinic in Kingston.

Dr. Sharma typically does a patient's first assessment at his clinic in Kingston, and is now able to provide intravitreal injections at any of his clinic locations.

Dr. Sharma has trained other eye surgeons from across Canada and other countries how to diagnose and treat retinal diseases. In our clinics you will be interacting with some of the best and brightest young medical minds in the country as Dr. Sharma teaches medical students, residents (medical doctors who are training for another 5 years to become eye surgeons) and fellows (qualified eye surgeons who are performing an extra 1-3 years of training to become an retina specialist) how to diagnose and treat common, complex and rare retinal diseases.
